How to Get to Vienna from the Airport
To get from Vienna International Airport, located outside the city limits, to the city center, you can take the City Airport Train (CAT), the Airport Express bus, the Schnellbahn (S-Bahn), the Vienna Airport Service or a taxi.
If you stay close to the WU Campus, we recommend to take”S7″ (S-Bahn) from the airport: Take the train towards “Wien Nord” or “Floridsdorf”. Get out at “Wien Praterstern” and change for subway line U2 towards “Seestadt” or “Asperngasse”. Get out at “Messe-Prater” (for Motel One or Austria Trend Hotel) or “Krieau” (for Courtyard Wien Messe/Prater Marriott).
Please click here for more details on how to get to WU.

This year the conference will be held at the WU, the Vienna University of Economics and Business, in Vienna, Austria. All sessions will take place in the Department building 5 (D5), Welthandelsplatz 2. Both plenary sessions, the lunches, the welcome reception on Monday evening and the Farewell Event on Wednesday will take place in the Library and Learning Centre (LC), Welthandelsplatz 1, 1020 Vienna, Austria.
For information on the architecture of the WU Campus, see the free audio guide WU Campus. A 26-minutes tour – or parts of it for single buildings – can be obtained through the App “Hearonymus”): https://www.hearonymus.com/index.php?page=guides&id=3549
Public Transport in Vienna
Vienna’s public transport is safe, comfortable and easy to use. Wiener Linien operate subways, streetcars, buses which start circulating at about 5.00 am and stop running between midnight and 1.00 am (a 24-hour subway service has been introduced on weekends). After the subway stops working, night buses start operating throughout the city at 30-minute intervals (night buses have an ‘N’ before their number).
There is an app run by the Vienna public transport service called “WienMobil” available in both German and English – it offers route planning, maps, and services for public transport, bike sharing (City Bike) as well as walking directions. ® Available on the Apple store and the Google Play store.
Please check here for more information on public transport in Vienna.
The WU Campus is located at subway line U2 (subway stops “Messe-Prater” or “Krieau”). The stop “Messe-Prater” (exit Messe) is closest to the conference venues. Using the online Journey planner, you can also pick “Welthandelsplatz 1” as a destination.
We have organized a special fee for public transport. Buy your ticket online before you travel: https://shop.wienerlinien.at/index.php/special_customer/2230/join/htC0crzmss
On the website, please change the language of the page to English.
- You can choose from one up to a four-day Congress Pass.
- The Congress Pass is ideal for those going to the Conference Dinner (direct connection with U2 from the WU Campus “Messe-Prater” or “Krieau”). Avoid the queues at the ticket machines and buy a one-day ticket before you travel.
- For those coming from the airport, staying at a hotel in the city center or extending their stay in Vienna, a multi-day pass could be an option. Please note that an additional ticket is needed if you travel from the airport to the city center. Ticket machines are at the airport.
Informal Welcome on Sunday Evening
The Informal Welcome is scheduled for Sunday, 9th of September 2018 from 16:00 – 18:30. Those of you who have signed in for this pre-conference event will also have the opportunity to pick up their conference bags.
The Informal Welcome will take place in the restaurant ‘Zur Grünen Hütte’ (‘The Green Hut’), Prater 196, 1020 Vienna. The restaurant can be easily reached from the hotels close to the WU Campus (blue circles on the map below), Motel One and the Austria Trend Hotel are very close. From the Marriott, it is a short walk through WU campus to reach the restaurant.
For those coming from the city, exit from the U2 subway stop ‘Messe-Prater’. From the exit at ‘Prater’ the ‘Grüne Hütte’ is just around the corner (hint: do not follow the signs toward the Messe or WU campus to reach the restaurant, it is closest to the other exit ‘Prater’ at the station). Chose the garden entrance to the restaurant.
